Inclusive Basketball for Social Impact

Recognizing the importance of accessible sports programs, the federation has developed basketball coaching camps specifically designed for individuals with disabilities. BFB took the initiative to take the Ball in School program to students in Draktsho Vocational Centre for Special Children and Youth in the year 2019. In 2024 the BFB had also taken the NBA Camp to Paro which involved students from Wangsel Institute of the Deaf.

In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Basketball Federation of Bhutan (BFB) proactively launched online basketball coaching sessions (Online Hoop) to keep the athletes and enthusiasts engaged

Community Resilience Through Sport

Recognizing the importance of maintaining physical activity during this period, the BFB introduced a series of simple yet effective drills led by experienced coaches and assisted by dedicated volunteer athletes. These sessions, designed to benefit individuals beyond just basketball players, are recorded and readily available on the BFB’s official Facebook page, providing convenient access to valuable fitness resources for the community.

Developing and assisting the community through basketball has always been a source of inspiration for BFB.

Basketball as an accessible sport for all

Recognising the fundamental importance of accessible sports, the Basketball Federation of Bhutan (BFB) has made inclusion a core tenet of its mission. We are committed to ensuring that basketball is a sport for all, regardless of physical ability or background.

The BFB has actively implemented a variety of programs to bring this vision alive. In 2019, the BFB initiated the “Ball in School” program at the Draktsho Vocational Centre for Special Children and Youth, successfully introducing the sport to a community that is often undeserved.
