The 5 days “Hearing Through Hoops” camp successfully advocated that basketball is for all, regardless of disability from the 3rd – 7th Nov, 2025. The project engaged 58 students (33 F, 25 M) with hearing impairment from all 20 districts. Coaches successfully taught basic basketball fundamentals to the beginner majority, fulfilling key skill development goals.
The camp’s success is now driving the launch of future grassroot programs to sustain student interest and promote long-term inclusive professional development in the sport.
Recognizing that effective communication was a primary challenge due to the students’ hearing impairment, the federation proactively addressed this barrier. Before the camp began, the coaches and staff participated in a dedicated three-day workshop to learn basic sign language. This preparatory step was essential in ensuring effective instruction and communication on the court, thereby enhancing the quality of the coaching and reinforcing the project’s success in promoting inclusive learning environments.
The most significant impact of the coaching clinic was the profound sense of encouragement and empowerment it instilled in the students. During interviews, participants strongly emphasized how the “Hearing Through Hoops” clinic motivated them to increase their involvement in basketball.
